"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!" - Muhammad Ali
Do you want to learn how to punch? Get in phenomenal shape? Improve your striking game? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re in the right place.
Serving North York and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Action & Reaction MMA Academy offers boxing classes guaranteed to get you in fighting shape. Our boxing classes are based on a boxer’s training regimen. These are not boxercise classes.
Our philosophy is that in order to get the full benefits of boxing, your training should reflect that of an actual boxer. This does not mean you’ll be drinking raw eggs and hitting sides of beef anytime soon. It does mean that we will hold you to the same standards we do an actual boxer, with some modifications.
Whether training for the amateur or professional ranks, MMA or recreationally; whatever your boxing goal, our certified and experienced coaches are in your corner to ensure you achieve it.
We offer boxing classes 5 days a week including lunch, evening and weekend classes. Call (416) 494-8787 in Toronto to get a Free 7 Day Trial or tour our facilities. More about boxing…
Boxing is a combat and Olympic sport and excellent form of self-defense for adults – men and women – and children. It’s also a terrific system for overall fitness and body conditioning.
At Action & Reaction MMA Academy, we have boxing programs designed for both beginners and boxing competitors. Certified members of Boxing Ontario, we also have a competitive amateur boxing team.
Boxing has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. It goes back to the days of ancient Greece where it first became an Olympic sport in 688 BC.
It’s been found depicted on ancient temples, architecture and artefacts from Greece, Sumeria, Egypt, Mesopotamia and Rome. It’s always been a very popular spectator sport but was also practiced by gladiators in life and death situations.
Modern boxing evolved from prize fighting or bare knuckle boxing that became popular in Europe in the 16th century. Those earliest bouts were known for their anything goes ethos and outright brutality. The sport attained its current name and became known as ‘boxing’ in the early 18th century.
Boxing evolved from its rough beginnings into the refined and organized practice more like the boxing we know today after the introduction of Marquess of Queensberry rules in 1867. These stipulate the organization and rules that govern a modern boxing match.
In the context of MMA, boxing offers the serious fighter a chance to hone striking skills and improve upper body conditioning and footwork. It’s an ideal way to improve your stand-up game with focused training that also helps improve hand striking in many other disciplines like Muay Thai Boxing and Kickboxing.
By focusing on striking skills and stand-up fighting you can add to the overall skill set of a well-rounded MMA fighter. A devastating and accurate hit has been the key to many a successful MMA pro career.
Boxing has some distinct advantages when it comes to self-defense because boxing classes involve real life sparring; both hitting and getting hit. This experience, combined with cardio and strength training make the boxer a lethal adversary.
Boxing is a popular form of exercise for adults looking for a superior cardio-workout. It builds a strong core and is a fantastic way to condition the whole body. Physical benefits for both women and men:
